When a payment is due

When a payment falls due, Rent Logger shows the expected amount from the schedule. You confirm what the lender actually took. Posting to Xero creates one Spend Money transaction from the paying bank.

1. Where the prompt appears

Due payments are listed on the loans list and on the loan itself. Open the row to confirm it, or use the quick action when the expected split is already right.

  3. Payments due
  4. Confirm paid
  • Confirm paid — don't post records the payment in Rent Logger and leaves Xero for later.
  • The full dialog is Confirm what was paid.

2. Confirm what was paid

The dialog shows the expected amount and date. Enter interest, principal, any capital overpayment, and any fee. The total paid is the sum of those amounts, on the date the money left the bank.

  • Post to Xero creates Spend Money from the paying bank. You still match it to the bank feed. Interest goes to mortgage interest, principal reduces the liability, and fees go to finance charges.
  • Record in Rent Logger only saves the payment so it can be posted later.
  • Already recorded in Xero marks it paid here and does not create another payment.
  • Tick The lender confirmed this split before a Xero post. An estimated split stays in Rent Logger. See Accounting allocation.

3. Override the split

Change the date, interest, principal, overpayment, or fee when the amount taken differs from the schedule. Use the figures from the lender’s statement or letter.

  • A capital overpayment asks whether it reduced the monthly payment, shortened the term, or is not confirmed yet.
  • Review the posting lines before you send them to Xero.

4. If it was not taken

Tick The payment was not taken. Nothing is recorded. The row stays Due, and the principal does not change.
