The notification bell

The bell in the header lists open alerts that need action in Rent Logger. The number on the bell is your queue. Opening the list does not close anything. Email summaries of the same alerts are covered in Email notification settings.

1. What the number means

The red count is open urgent and warning alerts that are unassigned or assigned to you. It caps at 99+.

  2. Bell
  • A yellow new count and animation mean activity since you last opened the bell in this session. Opening the panel stops the animation. It does not close the alerts.
  • New and Escalated tags stay until you next sign in.
  • After sign-in, a popup can list what appeared since you last signed in. Dismiss hides the popup. View all notifications opens the full list.

2. How it clears

An alert leaves the bell when the record is fixed, or when someone ignores it for the team.

  • Fix the underlying record. The notification then resolves and drops off the open list.
  • Ignore closes it for everyone, even if the problem is still there. You can find it later under Ignored.
  • An ignored critical alert can come back if the same issue escalates again.
  • Alerts assigned to a colleague still appear under All open. They do not add to your badge.

3. Options in the list

The panel groups Urgent and Warnings. Filter by category, or show only items with a New tag.

  • Without Portfolio Teams the header copy is: “Fixing the record closes a notification. Ignore closes it for everyone.”
  • Open takes you to the record. Ignore asks for an optional reason, then closes it for the whole team.

4. Portfolio Teams

Extra team tools appear when the account package includes staff. The header copy then reads: “Fixing the record closes a notification. Take one, hand it to a colleague, or ignore it for the team.”

  • Take it assigns the alert to you. Assign or Transfer hands it to someone who can see that portfolio and section. You can also add comments for the team.
  • Staff only see portfolios and navigation sections they can access. If nobody else can see that item, the transfer list is empty.
  • Managers can review Resolved and Ignored under Business Settings, Notification History. Items that were fixed before anyone was assigned are not listed there.
